Old Comics Synopsis

Home

The old comics were moved back into the normal archive. You can struggle through them now. This will be a synopsis page.

4/5/2002 (#1A): Kristen Sparrowmarch meets Nicholas Mitchell, and gains a few bruises in the process.

4/6/2002 (#2A): Kristen (Karystyn) and Nicholas (Mykelos) each decide to blackmail the other so that they aren't turned in to authorities.

4/7/2002 (#3A): Intro to Stryke (Somesuch) and Leo (Hunter), as well as the first appearance of Karystyn's long-suffering brother, Pironak. Stryke... stop eating cookies!

4/11/2002 (#4A): Bad foxwolf! No doggy biscuit! Karystyn and Mykelos arrive on scene to save the day. Sort of. But don't tell Stryke that.

4/14/2002 (#5A): At least you can't call Kristen dishonest.

4/29/2002 (#6A): The initial group starts fleeing together. I could be wrong here, but I really don't think Mykelos likes Leo. Meanwhile, Stryke seems to have lost her boots.

5/19/2002 (#7A): Nick (Mykelos) trades in his sunglasses and trenchcoat for a horse called Bane.

5/23/2002 (#8A): Runaway foxwolf! Nick to the rescue! This is one of the many things I ditched in the new comic--Banes are a legend, and Bane the horse is something else entirely. Still... wouldn't you run away from a vampiric horse with a name like Bane?

5/24/2002 (#9A): More bruises for Karystyn.

5/25/2002 (#10A): A prime example of the artist being extraordinarily lazy. In fact this one used to be sideways, albeit by accident. The team of four's being chased. This is also the first time you'll see Karystyn with wings.

5/29/2002 (#11A): More of Leo's Pessimism religion shines through. Karystyn reveals that she has a secret, and Bane reveals that he's one foul-tempered horse.

5/31/2002 (#12A): Karystyn is a liar, and this comic really didn't flow. That, and colored pencils really didn't make for a good coloring tool. Let's not go there, shall we?

6/1/2002 (#13A): Nicholas Mitchell (Mykelos) is well aware that Karystyn is a liar. The truth comes out. And oh, yeah... Stryke is really grumpy.

6/5/2002 (#14A): Enter Mariss and Valhen. Mykelos lets Bane go. Was that a good idea?

6/6/2002 (#15A): The battle begins, sort of.

6/7/2002 (#16A): Stryke isn't small and cute anymore... and the issue of Karystyn's pixie dust finally arises.

6/8/2002 (#17A): Mykelos shapeshifts into a drakk, and Mariss is turned into a bunny. Mykelos nearly squishes the bunny.

6/9/2002 (#18A): Mykelos turns back to normal, Stryke thinks she's a mercenary, and Karystyn needs help (as if we didn't know that already). Mykelos decides Karystyn owes him a meal.

6/10/2002 (#19A): Can't let the bunny get away, Stryke! And Myk, put yer shirt back on!

6/11/2002 (#20A): Stryke is triumphant, Karystyn is awake, and Nick Mitchell... er... that expression is just a little creepy, don't you think?

6/12/2002 (#21A): Er... Karystyn's possessed, guys. Fortunately Mariss, being an elf, has no clue how to be a pixie, much less a pixie/human/elf hybrid.

6/13/2002 (#22A): The werelion strikes again! Poor Stryke... always stuck guarding something.

6/14/2002 (#23A): Stryke's Survival Note: Let someone else argue with the bloodsucker while you play with a cute fluffy bunny, and always ignore the complaints of the prisoner. I still like the way Stryke looks in this comic.

6/16/2002 (#24A): The bunny nearly gets squished again. Leo makes sure that the soul-switching spell looks nice and dramatic.

6/21/2002 (#25A): Why Karystyn became a vegetarian... and why Stryke doesn't eat Pessimists.

6/24/2002 (#26A): Vampire angst. Ugh. Crazy Pixie-Elves: The Saga Continues.

6/28/2002 (#27A): Er... Does something seem strange to you?

7/1/2002 (#28A): Oh. It's the Manga Plague! This is very, very poorly drawn. My (extremely belated) apologies.

7/5/2002 (#29A): Wow! Is that a background in that first panel? I went vertical on this one (and on quite a few afterward, if I remember rightly). Off to see the healer!

7/7/2002 (#30A): Meet Kandor the dragon, Mendor and Pax (the sibling elves of doom), Danel the crow-riding pixie, and Kristen's maternal grandmother, Lady Tana. Aren't they a nice bunch?

7/26/2002 (#31A): Cameos: Bane, the artist as an elf, Pironak's hunting-cat (playing poker), a Myrk (sort of an insider thing, but still cute--it appears playing poker, in the doorway, and standing and chittering triumphantly). Bane tries to get information from Mendor, who appears to be busy getting drunk in preparation for dealing with manga plague victims. Karystyn develops a crush on Mendor.

7/29/2002 (#32A): Vampires aren't immune to Manga Plague. Also note the bartender Myrk and the cowmyrk. :D Yes, I was being silly. Karystyn's crush continues.

8/2/2002 (#33A): Kandor, of all creatures, gives advice. Stryke refuses to be helped by a drunken elf. Also, looks like someone's getting a little jealous of Karystyn's crush on Mendor.

8/5/2002 (#34A): Nicholas Mitchell (Mykelos) has a little chat with Mendor. Leo has a little chat with Stryke. And Karystyn is just busy making plans to visit (and flirt with) the healer when he's sober.

8/9/2002 (#35A): Myk tries to make sense of Kandor. Kandor doesn't make much sense. More pessimism. More of Karystyn wanting to flirt with Mendor. Stryke doesn't want to get rid of Manga Plague because she likes her sparkly eyes. Stryke's familiar finally shows up.

8/12/2002 (#36A): Pax arrives to take care of her brother. Mykelos thinks something's wrong. Pironak reappears and decides to destroy Pax's uniform.

9/9/2002 (#37A): Pironak misses his lunge at Pax, who has an arrow at ready. Bane's still spying. Myk freaks out as he sees Karystyn in the path that arrow will take. Even though really he shouldn't have a whole panel to himself, I really like the way Bane looks in this one.

9/12/2002 (#38A): Karystyn's a bit agitated over the price of swords. So she just stole the cash instead. Stryke and her crow familiar run off to goodness-knows-where. Mykelos tries to keep Karystyn from getting shot by Pax, and in the process gets shot himself.

9/20/2002 (#39A): Mykelos dies, Mendor shows up bald, and it seems that Karystyn really does have a conscience. Who'dathunk?

10/2/2002 (#40A): Kandor comes back. Mendor's still bald, and everybody but Karystyn's apparently gone now. Kandor carries Myk's body out to sea, and he's watched by Leo's familiar, Dart.

10/22/2002 (#41A): An attempt is made at restoring Pironak's true form by throwing pixie dust at him. He's just made smaller, fluffier, and cuter. Kandor agrees to try to restore him (but as you'll later see, either he never succeeds, or he never tries).

11/22/2002 (#42A): Leo returns to Master Victor Denbri, the Lightwielder, playing the role of one of several familiars (Hunter the tiger). Hunter the tiger used to be Hunter the forest-elf, which will show up in the comics eventually.

12/25/2002 (#43A): After this comic, there weren't any more for a long time. Instead, I put up artwork, some of which I think I'll put in a gallery here soon. Stryke, who's all big and scary still, meets Alexander Stonemason (mage-named Greenthumbs), who really doesn't have the foggiest what she's talking about. Alexander is undoubtedly another version of the Chanter. Come on, do you really think Nicholas Mitchell would spike his hair? His hair's all sleek and shiny and such.
